The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has multiple openings for junior and senior economists in 2020 and 2021. Since several divisions have job openings that are posted simultaneously, we encourage candidates to explore our website and apply to the position with the best fit.

FHFA regulates both the safety and soundness, and missions, of the Federal Home Loan Bank System, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac. Candidates are encouraged to apply if they have topical interests in banking, capital markets, credit and market risk modeling, financial regulation, housing policy, housing finance, industrial organization, labor, mortgage markets, real estate, or risk management. Specialized candidates are also being sought to better understand environmental changes and climate factors that affect those topics.

Ideal candidates would have a Ph.D. in economics, finance, or a related field, with strong quantitative and data skills. Candidates must exhibit sound empirical research skills and be able to demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills. Periodic travel within the U.S. may be required once pandemic-related telework is relaxed. Salary dependent on education and experience.

FHFA employees enjoy all the standard federal benefits plus additional agency-specific benefits and competitive salaries not tied to the traditional Government's General Schedule pay system. The agency offers job features like dedicated research and travel funds, technology to support remote work, flexible work schedules, paid parental leave, and a high degree of job security. Submitted materials must include affirmation of U.S. citizenship. FHFA is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Minorities and women are encouraged to apply.

Individual position descriptions can be found in the Job Openings for Economists and applications can be submitted via the FHFA website at https://www.fhfa.gov/AboutUs/Careers.
