Professor of Practice in Finance (Emphasis in Real Estate)

Position and duties:
The Perella Department of Finance at Lehigh University is recruiting for a Professor of Practice in Finance (with an emphasis in Real Estate) to begin on August 1st 2018. This is a renewable fixed-term, non-tenure track, full-time position reporting to the chair of the Perella Department of Finance. A Professor of Practice position in the College of Business and Economics typically requires teaching a 12 credit load per academic semester, i.e., eight 3-credit courses per academic year. However, this specific position normally provides for a one 3-credit course reduction per semester to require additional duties as mentioned next. The successful candidate will manage day-to-day operations of the Integrated Real Estate at Lehigh Program (i.e., the undergraduate real estate minor) under the direction of the Director of the Goodman Center for Real Estate Studies. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Director of the Goodman Center for Real Estate Studies and the center’s support staff to be immersed in the center’s activities. Additionally, the chosen candidate is also expected to engage in student advising and faculty service activities, including participating in commencement exercises, workshops, recruiting activities and other activities supportive of the Finance Department, its missions and goals, as assigned by the chair of the finance department.

Required attributes and preferences:
The successful candidate will have, at the very minimum, a graduate degree in real estate or a related field of study conducive to teaching real estate such as finance, economics, law, an MBA, etc. A doctoral degree from an accredited university is preferred. Relevant industry and/or teaching experience is required. Prior teaching experience at the university level is preferred. Must be flexible in teaching different courses in the same semester. Must actively engage with the professional real estate industry and Lehigh alumni. Must have excellent time-management and organizational skills.

The College of Business and Economics has approximately 1,200 undergraduates, 450 graduate students, and 80 full-time faculty members. With respect to finance, the undergraduate finance major at Lehigh University is the largest undergraduate major in terms of graduates produced each year. A significant number of our undergraduates proceed to careers on Wall Street and have succeeded very well there. We have a strong presence on Wall Street and this is complemented by our alumni group, the Lehigh University Wall Street Council. The department also participates in the MBA program as well as our MS in Analytical Finance Program jointly offered with the Mathematics and Industrial Engineering Departments.
